Ferrari’s sole family-oriented vehicle is due for a mid-cycle refresh, and our spy photographer has spotted a Ferrari FF prototype testing out in the wild. The refreshed Ferrari FF is expected to arrive for the 2016 model year.

While styling changes appear to be minimal, the Ferrari FF prototype features camouflage over much of the front fascia suggesting the four-passenger Italian sports car may be getting revised bumper air intakes. The additional cooling could be for a new entry-level model fitted with a version of the new 3.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 found in the Ferrari California T convertible and recently revealed Ferrari 488 GTB coupe. That engine makes 553 hp and 557 lb-ft of torque in the California T and 660 hp and 561 lb-ft in the upcoming 488 GTB. As we previously reported, forced induction will begin proliferating throughout Ferrari's lineup to help the automaker meet tightening emissions regulations.

The current model ’s 6.3-liter V-12 is expected to carry on in higher-trim FF models, and could get a power boost from its current rating of 651 hp and 504 lb-ft to more than 700 hp. The 6.3-liter in the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta makes 731 hp and 508 lb-ft. A new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is rumored to replace the current FF’s seven-speed dual-clutch and the all-wheel drive system is also expected to be revised.
