Audi has dropped plenty of hints that it wants to expand the TT -- currently sold in two-door coupe or roadster form -- with a lineup that includes a four-door variant. Now, a report from our colleagues at AUTOMOBILE suggests that Audi wants to produce a version of the TT Offroad concept that bowed at last year’s Beijing auto show and will likely name it the Audi TTQ.

Like the TT Offroad concept, the TTQ will sport a four-door crossover body style and will slot below the Audi Q3. It will undoubtedly ride on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform that also underpins the 2016 Audi TT and will likely include a hybrid powertrain option. The TT Offroad concept, for example, combined a 2.0-liter turbo-four with two electric motors. The AUTOMOBILE report suggests the TTQ will retain that same setup, with the gas engine making 290 hp, a 55-hp electric motor wedged within the transmission, and another electric motor providing 115 hp to the rear wheels.

The Audi TT Offroad was just one of three TT concepts revealed last year. First was the allroad shooting brake conceptrevealed at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, which the report claims isn’t practical enough. Then there was the TT Sportback concept with four doors and a liftgate. That concept, however, suffers from a lack of headroom and bad ingress and egress, AUTOMOBILE reports.

That said, going forward with the TTQ seems like a logical move. Compact luxury crossovers appear to be picking up steam, and the TTQ would give shoppers more Audi options to consider against the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and BMW X1.
