According to a report from Autocar, the endless string of Porsche 911 variants will continue to grow with another model in the 911 GT range. But before you roll your eyes, check out the idea behind this new car: instead of focusing on outright performance, this new 911 will reportedly prioritize driving pleasure above lap times.

Report: Porsche 911 to Add "Pure" GT Model

This back-to-basics model is intended to be a return the Porsche 911’s humble roots, meaning that it will focus on simplicity and driver interaction more than blistering performance. To this end, the Porsche 911 GT will likely come with the standard 911’s body rather than the Turbo and GT3 models’ wide body with aerodynamic add-ons. Skinnier tires and a softer suspension tune won’t provide as much grip as the track-ready GT3, but will help the car be friendlier at the limit and easier to drive.

That six-cylinder makes 475 hp in the GT3, so the pure 911 would still provide more power than the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models, which are currently rated at 350 hp and 400 hp, respectively. A manual transmission will be standard equipment, meaning that this new model would be the only GT variant to not use Porsche’s quick-shifting PDK dual-clutch.

Other details about the purified Porsche 911 variant are slim, as its official name is still up in the air. Look for more information to come on this philosophical shift for the 911 GT range later this year, possibly when the refreshed Porsche 911 debuts in the fall.
