Rolls-Royce will launch an all-new Dawn drophead in the first quarter of 2016. The model is expected to share a likeness with the new Wraith, but at the same time will build on a history that started around 65 years ago when the automaker first introduced the Dawn name.

Research

Although Rolls-Royce hasn't unveiled the car to the public yet, early prototypes give us a good clue as to what it might look like. We spotted this test mule just a few months ago sporting both lights and a grille very similar to the Wraith. We expect the Dawn will feature the same hood and doors as the Wraith, although most of its body panels will be unique.

If you dig back into Rolls-Royce history, you'll notice the Dawn name only existed for a brief period of time. From 1950 to 1954, Rolls-Royce used the Dawn moniker on 28 special drophead models. The extremely rare Silver Dawn (pictured at right and below) was the first Rolls-Royce offered with a factory-built body, and subsequent Rolls-Royce Dawn models continued on with specially built bodywork. Who can we expect will drive the new drophead ? According to a press release, Rolls-Royce said, "It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots.”
