Investment banker and former film director/producer/screenwriter Jim Glickenhaus unveiled the road version of his next race car at the Geneva motor show. Called the SCG 003, the wild-looking cars seek to blend the look of a Le Mans Prototype racer with GT-style seating for two, and as such will likely race in E1-XP category.

Research

Glickenhaus was originally known for his jaw-dropping re-imagination of the Ferrari Enzo supercar, with his specially designed Pininfarina P4/5. Glickenhaus made headlines again in 2009 when he designed a competition variant of the P4/5 concept based on a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, called the P4/5 Competizione, and found moderate success fielding it at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, where it finished first in its class and 12th overall in 2012 in the E1-XP class.

Now, Glickenhaus returns to the race grid with an all new, designed-from-the-ground-up GT car, intended to race at the upcoming 24 Hours of Nürburgring this year, with possible outings at SPA and elsewhere leading up to that event. The engine is derived from a Honda Performance Development 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, retuned by Autotecnica Motori, with input from Bosch Motorsports in developing the engine-control unit. Engine output with the 33-mm restrictor plate is said to be 520 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque.

During the 15 months of design and development leading up to its Geneva appearance, the car has undergone some 2000 miles of development driving, and is said to display no bad habits, making it easy to jump in and drive hard, with lap times improving quickly.

A road-going version of the SCG 003 was unveiled in Geneva, though the team would not say whether it would simply feature an unrestricted version of the HPD V-6, or a different engine altogether, but representatives did say that Mr. Glickenhaus has one customer lined up to purchase the street-legal variant, though the price was not disclosed. There will probably be more to follow that one.
