Second-Gen Jaguar XF Spied Soaking up the Sun

Following the official debut of the new Jaguar XE compact sedan, spy photographers have spied yet another treat to come from the British automaker. The second-gen XF sedan was spotted going for a joyride in Southern Europe, and even though the sun was shining bright, it didn't shed its heavy camouflage.

With that said, it's hard to tell even minor differences between the new XF and its predecessor. The prototype still keeps the current model's rectangular front grille, but, its roofline appears to be a bit more sloped like the one on the larger XJ. Other than that, the XF prototype appears to be the same size as the current car. Even though the prototype doesn't look smaller, we expect it to be much lighter than the current car since it's based on a stretched version of the automaker's iQ[Al] all-aluminum platform, which underpins the new XE. The XE was unveiled earlier this month, sporting a more aerodynamic design and muscular sheetmetal, and we wouldn't be surprised if the new XF debuted with a similar design language. Powertrain options shouldn't come as much of a surprise, either. Expect to see gas- and diesel-powered turbo-fours at the bottom of the lineup, with supercharged six-and eight-cylinder engines filling in the middle and top of the range. The new XF should also offer all-wheel drive and the nine-speed automatic found in the 2014 Range Rover Evoque. It also wouldn't be out of character for Jaguar to introduce the next-gen XFR-S in the near future.
