Spied: 2016 Audi TT Cabriolet Goes Topless, Then Covers Up

The Audi TT coupe made its debut in Geneva earlier this year, and now we have a good idea of what the cabriolet version will look like thanks to this recently spied test mule.

The front end of the TT convertible looks much the same as it did on the coupe, with aggressive-looking, slanted headlights and a large hexagonal grille. Things look similar in the rear as well, with taillights showing off three-dimensional elements within the housings. However, the prototype reveals the most important detail about the upcoming convertible's exterior -- what it will look like with the top up and down. There are no surprises with it down the cloth top in the down position, as we've seen the TT's interior already. A pair of roll bars and a mesh screen sits behind the seats, followed by the TT cabriolet's flat rear deck. With the top up, the drop-top TT has an attractive profile that's sleek and elegant. It's still unclear which engines the 2016 TT will get, but a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-liter I-4 making around 265 hp is expected to carry over from the outgoing TTS. Check out photos of the next-gen TT convertible below.
