Our spy photographers recently spotted the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze out for a quiet photoshoot in Ontario, Calif. The new Cruze enters its second generation in style, showing off a more athletic body and taking more design risks than its predecessor.

Up front, look for a reshaped grille and new headlights. Also notice two new character lines that run across the body of the sedan, giving it an edgier look. The rear design has completely changed and includes unique lighting elements below the trunk. As expected, the overall look borrows liberally from the design of the new Malibu, which debuted earlier this spring. © Provided by MotorTrend

Spied: 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Bares It All

© Provided by MotorTrend The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will likely come with a new family of engines, including a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder shown on the Malibu and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel offered with the current Cruze. A plug-in hybrid version is also rumored. Along with these engines, expect a dual-clutch transmission to make its way somewhere in the lineup. But even bigger news is that a new hatchback version is expected to be offered in the U.S., and possibly a wagon.

We expect General Motors will reveal the Chevrolet Cruze Interior Spied" target="_blank">Cruze either late this year at the Los Angeles auto show or early next year at the Detroit show. Either way, it is likely destined as a 2016 model. Considering how old this model is compared with fresh competition like the re-imagined Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla, a new version may be just the trick to reverse slumping Cruze sales.
