It wasn't that long ago that we caught a Mercedes-AMG GLC63 prototype out testing in full camouflage, and now we have caught the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC out testing with hardly any camouflage to hide the model. The 2016 GLC will be the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLK, after the automaker announced plans for a nomenclature change across its growing lineup.

Without the hindrance of heavy camo, this compact SUV shows off a body that is not only wider than the model it will replace, but also longer. These new dimensions will help differentiate the GLC from the smaller GLA, as well as give the new model more interior room.

As the new model will be built off the C-Class platform, we expect that it will feature some of the same elements, as we can see with the headlights and front fascia. The powertrain lineup currently in the C-Class is also expected to power the new GLC compact SUV, although that has yet to be confirmed.

For the first time, we have also been able to get a few shots of the interior, where we can see a large free-standing screen that will be controlled by the updated COMAND infotainment controller found on the center console. New features come in the form of a touch pad that accepts finger-written characters, as well as smartphone-like commands.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC will most likely make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall.
