Spied: 2017 Hyundai Elantra Receives Tamer Interior

Just yesterday, Hyundai teased us with a seductive silhouette of the redesigned Hyundai Elantra's interior. But now we have a better idea of what the car will actually look like, thanks to our spy photographers.

They caught a full view of the Elantra's interior while it was out testing recently. Clearly, Hyundai has ditched the swoopy dashboard of the current model for a more streamlined appearance. The overall design harkens back to the Genesis sedan, although the material quality is expectedly lower.

From these photos, it's clear the new Elantra features a more linear set of buttons and controls. The compact sedan may also receive a variety of different infotainment options. The screen on this spied car appears little bigger than the screen of an iPhone, but the teaser shot released by Hyundai showed off a screen that looks much larger. Hyundai's new generation interface is expected to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Along with a subdued interior, the Elantra also receives a more mature exterior design. Strong character lines complement swept-back headlights with LED light bars resembling those in the Genesis. The sedan also features a hexagonal grille that has been slightly tweaked for the new model year. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

We'll likely see the Elantra in the next several weeks, possibly at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It is expected to offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder base engine and a 1.6-liter turbo-four option. That engine is likely to come paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as it does in the current Hyundai Sonata Eco.
