Spied: A First Peek at the Next-Gen BMW 7 Series' Interior

A few weeks ago, a next-gen BMW 7 Series prototype was snapped cruising on the freeways close toMotor Trend headquarters. Now, another tester has been caught, but this time around the photographer was able to snap a few clear photos of the sedan’s interior.

BMW has one obvious benchmark when it comes to interiors -- The Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Benz elevated the game even further last week with the Mercedes-Maybach S600, though that car is targeted more at Bentley and Rolls-Royce rather than the 7 Series.

The photos reveal only the dash. The layout is similar to the 3 and 5 Series, though the buttons have a metallic-like finish that gives it a more premium look. A peek at the instrument panel reveals a digital display, though it doesn’t appear to be fully-digital like the S-Class.

Like other BMW models, the infotainment screen is mounted high on the dash, while the iDrive cluster doesn’t appear to have changed much from the current model.

The exterior is still covered up, but it appears the tester is sporting LED headlights, which will be standard equipment on the new 7 Series. Laser headlights should be optional.

As previously reported, the next-generation 7 Series will ride on BMW’s new 35up platform that could include composite and aluminum construction to cut down on weight. Powertrain choices will most certainly include a twin-turbo V-8, a diesel, and hybrid model. Look for BMW’s new flagship to debut in 2015, likely toward the end of the year.
