Spied: Jaguar F-Pace Crossover Looks Ready for Production

We spotted this model wearing Land Rover bodywork last year, but finally, our spy photographers have captured a more production-ready prototype for Jaguar's crossover, which we now know will be named F-Pace .

Research

Although heavily camoed, this test mule clearly looks a lot like the C-X17 concept that first debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show. That includes the same rounded back end and narrow headlights and taillights that struck us in concept form. A lot of these style elements were originally derived from the F-Type, Jaguar has said.

The crossover will utilize the aluminum unibody found under the new Jaguar XE sedan. It may also share the XE's powertrains, namely the 240-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 and a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 with over 300 hp. Diesel and hybrid models may follow in the future, but that remains to be seen. Both rear-wheel- and all-wheel-drive versions of the crossover should be available.

The Jaguar F-Pace will arrive in 2016 to fill a hole in the automaker's lineup. Jaguar's first crossover is expected to compete against the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Production will take place at Jaguar Land Rover's factory in Solihull, U.K., but until then, Jaguar says the model is undergoing real-world testing at its facilities across the globe.
