Spied: Kia Sportage Prototype Winter Testing in Full Camo

With the next generation of its lineup, Kia wants to further separate its car and SUVs in terms of styling. We caught the new Kia Sportage SUV out winter testing in full camouflage, and while it may be hard to see the finer details, there is enough visible for slight speculations.

The fourth-generation Kia Sportage is set to make its official debut later this year, and this prototype provides a glimpse of what to expect. Already, we can see the resemblance to the Kia KX3 Concept that was unveiled last year.

A close look at the front of the prototype reveals a bigger Tiger-nose tri-dimensional front grille, with wraparound headlights and foglights that are more noticeable. While snow covers up much of the rear end, we can just make out what looks to be redesigned LED taillights that feature the same separated reverse and turn indicator lights that are on the current Sportage.

As far as power is concerned, we expect a seven-speed dual clutch transmission to be standard with different engine options, including a direct-injected gasoline engine, small turbos, and an improved 1.6-liter 136-hp diesel engine. A 190-hp diesel engine may also make it into the lineup. For the turbocharged gas engines, Kia will most likely use a 1.2-liter I-4 that pumps out 132 hp, or a 1.6-liter for up to 201 hp. We expect the most powerful engine option to be a 245-hp 2.0-liter I-4.
