Spied! Mercedes-Benz C-Class Convertible Shows off its Taillights

It's been a while since we've seen the refreshed Mercedes-Benz C-Class convertible out and about, but just recently, spy photographers spotted the drop-top going out for a stroll. Although the latest pictures only show the convertible's backside, we can see that new elements have been added to the prototype's rear end since the last time we saw it.

Since the trunklid is the only part of the prototype that's been left bare, we get a good look at its partially exposed tailights, which appear to look similar to the ones found on the S-Class Coupe. Unlike the single taillight units found on the C-Class sedan, the drop-top version features a two-piece setup that wraps all the way from the rear quarter panel onto the trunklid. Another styling cue taken from the S-Class coupe is the chrome trim strip that horizontally connects the two rear lights.

Although the rear windows are rolled down on the prototype, we still weren't able to get a good look inside, though we suspect its interior will look much like the one in the current C-Class with upscale S-Class elements. As the prototype reveals, the C-Class convertible will sport a conventional soft-top like the one on the E-Class convertible. The drop-top will also offer the same powertrain options as its sedan counterpart, which include a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 that makes 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 329 hp and 354 lb-ft.
