With stronger-than-expected sales so far this year, Subaru is upping its 2014 sales projection. The Japanese automaker is raising its initial sales forecast of 460,000 to 500,000 vehicles for the 2014 calendar year. That’s 17 percent higher than 2013, where the automaker sold 424,683 units.

Last year marks the fifth year in a row of record sales for Subaru, with 2013’s sales being 26 percent higher than those of 2012. The automaker credits strong sales across all of its product line including the 2014 Forester (Motor Trend 2014 SUV of the Year winner), the new XV Crosstrek, and redesigned 2015 Legacy and Outback models. Subaru has also had 33 months of continued sales growth.

“Our strong market performance has caused us to increase our year-end sales forecast beyond the notable 500,000 sales mark,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc., in a release.

With all those extra profits, maybe Subaru will finally be able to bring to market the WRX/STI hatch enthusiasts have been begging for.
