Subaru to Reach North American Sales Goal Ahead of Schedule

Things are looking mighty good for Subaru, as the Japanese automaker is on track to reach its initial North American mid-term sales target much earlier than it had originally planned.

Back in May, the automaker raised annual sales projections to more than 1.1 million vehicles by March 2021, with North America accounting for 600,000 of those sales. But thanks to stronger-than-expected sales this year, the automaker is well on its way to hitting its mid-term goal of 600,000 units at least three years ahead of schedule, by 2016 or 2017. A large part of that has to do with the hot-selling Forester and Legacy, both of which continue to churn out high sales numbers month after month.

This isn't the first time Subaru has surprised itself with its own sales strength. The company in September announced that it raised its initial sales forecast for the 2014 calendar year from 460,000 to 500,000 vehicles. That’s 17 percent higher than 2013, when 424,683 Subarus were sold. Taking all this into consideration, the automaker is forecasting a third consecutive year of record profits. A new mid-term sales target will be announced at a later time, though we wouldn't be surprised to see the automaker outdo itself once again.
