While the Tesla Model S may have nothing in common with supercharged Ford Mustangs and the Saleen S7 supercar, that hasn’t stopped Saleen from applying high-performance techniques to the EV sedan. The Tesla Model S based Saleen FOURSIXTEEN was unveiled at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

With its pure EV drivetrain, Saleen gives the Model S a performance boost via a new 11.93:1 final gear ratio for quicker acceleration and a new Saleen MAXGRIPTM locking differential for improved straight-line and cornering traction. Saleen claims the updates combine to increase the FOURSIXTEEN sedan’s torque management, throttle response, and acceleration.

The electric motor cooling system has also been upgraded for more consistent temperatures during performance driving. The upgraded system includes a larger radiator, upsampled cooling fans, and a high-flow water pump.

Saleen upgraded the FOURSIXTEEN sedan ’s suspension with its S4 track ready suspension featuring monotube coliover shocks and S4 anti-sway bars. The revised suspension setup is said to improve handling without sacrificing ride quality. A fully adjustable suspension is also available and is ideal for track/street cars. The recalibrated Stability Control System gives better cornering response and drivability, according to Saleen.

The braking system has also been upgraded with 14-inch two-piece aluminum hat vented rotors and multi-piston from calipers and performance brake pads. A lightweight carbon ceramic rotor upgrade is also available. The upgraded brakes sit behind a set of Saleen designed wheels wrapped in ZR-rated tires.

Like all vehicles that come out of the Saleen factory, the FOURSIXTEEN features unique styling inside and out. Exterior changes include a new front and rear fascias and a carbon fiber rear diffuser. The new bits are said to improve aerodynamics. Front aero management vents create a low pressure field. In addition to generating downforce across the front, the V-shaped hood design also directs hot air away from the drivetrain cooling system. Around back, airflow over the vehicle is directed by a new rear decklid spoiler and rear fasica, while the new diffuser increases downforce. A carbon fiber piece between the taillights is said to direct mid-chassis air.

Inside, the Saleen FOURSIXTEEN features black leather with contrasting white perforated leather accents and Alcantara suede inlays. New full bucket seats front and rear feature more bolstering than that in the stock Model S. The two-tone theme carries over to the door panels, while the back of the front seats are covered in black leather. The leather-wrapped dashboard features contrast stitching and carbon fiber trim. Saleen even added a new center console for addition storage and new cupholders.

Pricing for the Tesla Model S P85 based Saleen FOURSIXTEEN is expected to start at $152,000 including the base car and before government incentives. Saleen developed components are covered under a 4-year/50,000 mile warranty. Vehicles are available to order direct from Saleen now and take six to eight weeks for delivery. Current Models S owners can also buy individual pieces to personalize their existing car.
