By launching the ATS-V, Cadillac has called out the BMW M3 and M4. Caddy president Johan de Nysschen even took to Facebook to boast about the ATS-V, which we recently got the chance to drive. The car is no doubt good, but we won't know if it's ready to take on Bavaria's best until we can drive the two cars back to back in a comparison test. But before then, we'd like to know which luxury sport coupe/sedan you'd pick.

As we pointed out in our First Test, the ATS-V is aimed squarely at the BMW M3/M4, which means the cars are very similar in spec. The ATS-V packs a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 464 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, while the BMW M twins sport a twin-turbo inline-six rated at 425 hp and 406 lb-ft. Both cars have the option of a six-speed manual, but the M3/M4 offers a seven-speed dual-clutch to the ATS-V's eight-speed automatic. Despite the ATS-V's horsepower advantage, the numbers look very similar in our tests. A 2016 ATS-V coupe accelerated to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 114.6 mph. Meanwhile, our long-term 2015 BMW M3 recorded a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and finished the quarter mile in 12.2 seconds at 117.3 mph. The two cars are just as close on the skidpad, with the ATS-V recording average lateral acceleration of 0.98 g to the M3's 0.99 g.

Base prices for the cars are also close, but the ATS-V has the pricing advantage. A 2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan starts at $61,460 compared to the 2015 BMW M3's starting price of $62,950. The ATS-V coupe starts at $63,660, while the M4 starts at $65,125.

So which high-performance luxury coupe/sedan would you choose? Tell us in the comments below.
