TOTD: Should Infiniti’s Flagship Sedan Include a GT-R Engine Option?

Still basking in the reveal of the I nfiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept with its Nissan GT-R derived powerplant, the Japanese luxury automaker is said to be working on a flagship sedan that would go up against the Porsche Panamera. Unlike the Q50 Eau Rouge concept, the flagship sedan won’t use the GT-R’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 – but should it?

The standard powerplant in the flagship sedan, possibly called the Q80 or Q90, is rumored to be a new direct-injected, turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 hybrid with 550 hp, while a twin-turbo 3.7-liter V-6 hybrid with 700 hp will be optional. The GT-R’s hand-built powerplant was ruled out since it can’t be produced in high numbers. Godzilla’s high-performance engine may also be too brash and fuel thirsty for most Infiniti customers, though there should be a few enthusiasts who wouldn’t mind a GT-R-powered four-door.

That said, should Infiniti offer a low-volume variant of its flagship sedan with the GT-R’s hand-built twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 ? Share your thoughts below.
