We recently ran the test numbers on the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, and while it may not be a scorcher on the drag strip, its combination of performance and impressive fuel economy are hard to ignore. It’s been decades since the half-ton truck segment has offered a diesel engine, and we’re eager to see what kind of sales numbers our 2014 Truck of the Year winner can pull off. As we’ve reported many times before, Ford struck gold when it stuffed an EcoBoost V-6 in the F-150. So for today’s TOTD we want to know which truck do you think will have more staying power, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel or the Ford F-150 EcoBoost?

The EcoBoost currently accounts for 40 percentof F-150 sales. We predict the EcoDiesel will initially make up 20 percent of Ram 1500 sales, and there are plenty of reasons why that number should increase over time. For starters, there’s the Ram’s fuel economy. While the EPA has yet to release official figures, our testing crew recorded a Real MPG highway rating of 28 mpg. The Ecoboost F-150, by comparison, is EPA-rated at 21 mpg highway (both trucks equipped with 4WD).

One knock against the Ram is straight line performance. With a 0-60 mph time of 8.9 seconds, the 1500 EcoDiesel trails the Ford F-150 EcoBoost by about two seconds. So which truck do you think will be more popular in the long run? Sound off below.
