Now in its seventh generation, the Volkswagen Golf continues to have a cult following -- especially in GTI trim. Having just driven the 2015 GTI, we can understand why. The latest version of the fun-to-drive hatchback can hold 0.92 g on the skidpad and features a stability control system that can finally be turned off (mostly). But is it the best GTI yet? That's what we want to know in today's Thread of the Day.

Some might argue that the original GTI recipe is still the best. With 109 hp on tap from its fuel-injected 1.8-liter I-4 and a curb weight of just under 1800 pounds, the 1976 Volkswagen GTI gave birth to the hot hatch formula. The generations that followed brought six-cylinder engines and forced induction, but inevitably more weight. But VW enthusiasts of a certain age will likely remember the 1.8T-equipped Mark-4 GTI fondly for its ease of tuning and responsiveness to upgrades.
