The full-size pickup is the most popular segment in the U.S., and the domestic brands far outsell the two Japanese rivals. In a recent comparison, we put the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 4x4 and 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Outdoorsman 4x4 against the new aluminum-intensive 2015 Ford F-150 2.7L EcoBoost 4x4. In this Thread of the Day, we want to know which light-duty full-size pickup you would pick.

Research

Each truck had its pros and cons. While the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was the most fuel-efficient in real-world and our RealMPG testing, it was also the slowest in acceleration. Diesel fuel also costs more than the regular-grade gasoline required by its competitors. Despite having the smallest engine in the group, the Ford F-150 2.7-liter EcoBoost was the quickset-accelerating loaded or unloaded, and had the second-best fuel economy. With the only V-8 in the group, the Chevrolet Silverado’s 5.3-liter small block returned the worst fuel mileage and was second quickest, though it felt slower than the Ram.

Each of the trucks easily handled the testing we put them through and each one featured unique features not available on the others. Ford offers a fold-out tailgate step as well as a swing-out side step, while the Silverado gets a standard rear bumper step. The Ram 1500 is available with the RamBox storage compartments either side of the bed.
