TOTD: Which Luxury Compact Crossover Would You Choose?

There’s no doubt that the luxury compact crossover segment is hot. In recent years, manufacturers have jumped on the luxe compact CUV bandwagon, and with so many options to choose from now, it can be overwhelming trying to find one that best suits you. In our Luxury Compact Crossover comparison, we sampled five similarly equipped CUVs to discover which one stood out as the best, but even though we crowned a winner, we want to know which luxury compact crossover you’d pick: the Range Rover Evoque, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Lincoln MKC, or the Lexus NX?

Although each crossover came equipped with a 2.0-liter, force-fed four-cylinder, their personalities were different. Even though the Evoque was voted the most attractive of the group with its big 20-inch wheels, it’s flinty and harsh ride reminded us that it’s not all about looks. We also weren’t too fond of the new nine-speed automatic transmission, which felt a bit too eager at times.

The opposite was true of the BMW X3, which despite being the heaviest of the group, felt the lightest. Its 240-hp engine and transmission were also on point, which became clear in our battery of tests. The X3 completed the 0-60-mph sprint the quickest at 6.0 seconds, with the Volvo XC60 coming in after it in 6.3 seconds. Numbers alone weren’t enough to save the XC60, as we found its interior to be the least luxurious of the bunch. We also didn’t appreciate the torque-steer and the lumpy eight-speed automatic transmission.

As for the Lincoln MKC, it stood out thanks to its real MPG numbers, which were second-best compared to the Lexus NX. Other than that, we noted its throttle response was weird, and handling a bit clumsy. The Lexus was the sportiest of the bunch, though that can be attributed to its F Sport guise that gave it a thick steering wheel, red and black interior, and supportive bolstered seats. It didn’t just look the part, as the NX also performed well on the track and on the streets with a smooth power delivery.

After all was said and done, we chose the NX as the best of the group, but which one would you have picked? Read the full story here and then let us know which luxury compact crossover you’d take home in the comments below for today’s TOTD.
