When you think of high-performance luxury sedans, usually the first vehicle that comes to mind wears a BMW badge. And while BMW has long been on top of the game with the M3, automakers have lined up to take it down a notch. However, the BMW has never stayed down for long.

Recently, offerings from Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz have stepped up to the plate to give the BMW M3 a run for its money. We took the 2015 BMW M3, 2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan, and the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S and pitted them against each other to see which one would come out on top.

Looking at performance numbers, the BMW offers the least amount of power at 425 hp, but it's also nearly 250 pounds lighter than the Cadillac, which delivers 464 hp, and over 400 pounds lighter than the Mercedes, which has the most power at 503 hp. The ATS-V was quickest to 60 mph with a time of 3.7 seconds, exactly 0.3 seconds quicker than the M3 and C63 S. The quarter mile and braking distances continued in that order.

However, numbers are only one aspect of the test. How the cars handled, the quality of the interior and other factors went in to the final judgment. It might surprise a few to learn that when it was time to make a decision, the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S took first place, while the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan took second, while the 2015 BMW M3 rounded out the group in third.

If you had the option of these three high-performance luxury sedans, what would you pick?
