With the release of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata for download in Forza Horizon 2, Mazda and Xbox announced the chance for one lucky gamer to win a real 2016 Miata by entering the Time Trials Rivals Contest and scoring the fastest time. In a surprise twist, both the winner and the runner-up were awarded the grand prize.

The contest began back in March, where players could download the free 2016 Miata MX-5 Car Pack for the game. In order to be eligible to win the physical 2016 Mazda Miata, contestants had to enter the "Rival Mode" event on the Sisteron Perimeter Sprint Track. The download also includes the 2010 MX-5 Super20 SEMA concept car, 2005 Mazdaspeed MX-5, and the 1990 MX-5.

The two finalists, David Goss and Colton Miller, were flown to Los Angeles to compete for the car at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), where Goss defeated Miller. While there was only supposed to be one winner, the runner-up also received a new Miata. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

"We'd like to say congratulations to David and Colton as we know they spent many hours behind the 'virtual wheel' leading up to E3 in anticipation of the big race," said Eric Watson, Mazda North America's director of marketing, in a release. "They both spent so much time preparing for this event that we didn't want one of them to go home empty-handed."

That's one hell of a consolation prize. Enjoy it, you lucky dog.
