After a strong 2014 season, with a second-place finish in the manufacturers' championship and a third-place finish in the drivers' championship, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team has updated its Beetle GRC cars for the 2015 season.

The team will replace last year's 1.6-liter turbocharged and intercooled TSI four-cylinder engine delivering 544 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque with a larger 2.0-liter TSI that ups power to 553 hp and 465 lb-ft. The added power will help the Volkswagen Andretti team with acceleration on standing starts and in slower corners. Weighing only 2,866 pounds, the new Beetle rally car is expected to go from 0-60 in just 2 seconds. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

Because GRC is eliminating weight equalization for smaller engines, the U.S.-based series will be more in line with the FIA World Rallycross series.

Instantly recognized thanks to its large rear wing, wide-body fenders, and unique front fascia, the Beetle GRC features an all-around strut-type suspension, ZF dampers, and 14-inch front and 11.8-inch rear vented disk brakes.

Drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust will be returning to the Volkswagen Andretti team. "We are very much looking forward to the start of the GRC season with the Beetle," said Jost Capito, Motorsport Director for Volkswagen, in a release. "The 2015 Beetle GRC has been further developed, based on all our experience we gained with the brand new Beetle last year. We are looking forward to a serious title challenge with Scott Speed and Tanner Foust in 2015 and we are sure that the Beetles will be real fan favorites again."
