If the idea of the Bentley Bentayga SUV weren’t shocking enough, reports suggest that the British automaker is still considering a second SUV, one that would slot below the larger Bentayga.

Research

Rumors about the second Bentley SUV first surfaced earlier this year, and Autocar reports that it’s still on the table. Autocar spoke with Bentley engineering chief Rolf Frech, who said that a smaller SUV is still “a possibility.”

The report suggests the SUV would likely ride on Volkswagen Group’s new MSB platform. This version of MSB would be a front-engine, rear- or all-wheel drive layout and will likely underpin the next-generation Continental and Flying Spur as well. The report also speculates that the new SUV’s styling could mimic the BMW X6.

Unlike the Bentayga, which is expected to be offered with a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W-12, the small Bentley SUV will likely be sold with a twin-turbo V-8. A supercharged or turbocharged V-6 is also a possibility, as well as a diesel or hybrid version.

That said, Bentley is still hard at work finalizing and preparing the Bentayga (pictured in prototype form) for its scheduled on-sale date sometime next year. The automaker expects to sell 3,000 Bentaygas annually and claims it has already received far more interest in the SUV than expected.
