When it announced the merger of Ford Racing, Ford SVT, and Team RS into the new Ford Performance arm, the Blue Oval also said it would add 12 performance models by 2020. One of those models is rumored to be a higher-performance variant of the Fiesta ST, which could mean a Fiesta RS, according to reports from Autocar and Auto Express.

A higher-performance Fiesta variant could theoretically be a Ford Performance model, Tyrone Johnson, Ford Performance manager, hinted to Autocar. While Johnson didn’t confirm how a higher-performing Fiesta model would be badged, he did say it would be based on the current chassis. RS versions of the Focus have generally been introduced near the end of a generation's product lifecycle.

“The current Fiesta has another two-and-a-half years before it’s replaced. We’ll update the ST within that period, and after that there could be something else,” Johnson told Auto Express.

Ford Performance will build performance models from mild to wild: “There will be three categories that each of these 12 cars will fall into.” Johnson told Auto Express. “Enhanced technology -- models like the Fiesta ST and Focus ST. High performance -- things like the F-150 Raptor, Mustang GT350R and Focus RS. And then Ultra high-performance, which is the new GT.”

Johnson told Autoca r that a new Fiesta RS is theoretically possible “if there’s a business case and if it’s technically feasible.”

While the Focus RS will reportedly use the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 and all-wheel drive in place of the front-drive Focus ST’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost, the Fiesta RS could use an enhanced version of the Fiesta ST’s 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with as much as 250 hp. All-wheel drive is also possible for the Fiesta RS.

The previously confirmed Ford Focus RS and recently revealed Ford GT, Mustang GT350 and GT350R, and F-150 Raptor are part of the 12 upcoming models from Ford Performance.
