The next-generation Lexus LS is in the works, and when the flagship sedan finally arrives, it'll be much more of a head-turner than its predecessor. The next LS, which will continue to sit at the top of the range with the highest price point, will reportedly have more personality than the current car.

We Hear: Next-Gen Lexus LS to Get More Personality

Lexus' European boss Alain Uyttenhoven told Autocar that the LS would be "more emotional," and while he didn't elaborate on how it will achieve that, expect the next LS to have more distinct styling compared to its predecessor. “We’re not chasing market share so we need to make cars that people notice, cars that polarize opinion so that people love them or don’t like them," Uyttenhoven continued. Two perfect examples of such cars include the Lexus IS F Sport and the NX crossover, both of which feature controversial styling. Critics have bashed the cars over the automaker's signature spindle grille, which has been compared to the creatures in the "Predator" movies. The next LS could take styling cues from the IS and NX, with a more aggressive-looking front fascia. However, Uyttenhoven also stressed the importance of differentiation within the lineup: "It's not good for the brand to have 'Russian doll' styling." 2014 Lexus LS 460 F SPORT© Provided by MotorTrend 2014 Lexus LS 460 F SPORT

Either way, the next-gen LS will not adopt Porsche Panemera-like styling, as the exec dispelled rumors that the LS would be offered as a liftback. As for other future models, Uyttenhoven said that although the next RX will be larger, it will still be a five-seater. The crossover is slated for next year, but there could also be a model smaller than the NX in the works, too. The boss revealed a sub-NX model could make sense for the brand, considering new entrants like the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1 have just recently entered the compact luxury crossover market. 2014 Lexus LS 460© Provided by MotorTrend 2014 Lexus LS 460
