Now that we're about to hit the middle of the decade in just week, we feel like reminiscing about earlier times. Here were the top automotive stories from exactly three years ago to the date:

Ford Reports F-150 Ecoboost V-6 Truck Sales Hit 100,000 Mark : Today, imagining Ford's truck lineup without EcoBoost seems impossible. But three years ago, Ford was just beginning to roll out these fuel-efficient offerings. As buyers began to seek an alternative to V-8 trucks, Ecoboost sales comprised of 35 percent of the F-150 mix just months after its introduction. Fast forward to May of this year, and Ford reported selling half a million Ecoboost F-150s, and now 45 percent of F-150s are equipped with the technology. In the new 2015 Ford F-150, a second EcoBoost offering has even been introduced, the twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Wagon for Europe – Should We Get It? : Back when Alfa Romeo was relentlessly taunting us with a return to the U.S., it brought a brand new sports wagon to Europe. Things have changed a lot for the brand since then, however. The 4C finally arrived in the U.S., and the brand now plans to introduce a new midsize car, two compacts, one full-size vehicle, two utility vehicles, and one specialty vehicle in an effort to boost sales to 400,000 cars globally by 2018. On top of that, Alfa Romeo will dump front-wheel-drive cars in favor of rear- and all-wheel-drive models, meaning this Giulietta will soon be a thing of the past.

End of an Era - Last Dodge Caliber Built in Illinois : The poor Dodge Caliber was never a shining star in its segment. Its awkward looks and lack of refinement didn't help to rake in significant sales. After a six-year run, the Caliber stopped production in Illinois exactly three years ago today. Now, it is replaced by the more stylish Dodge Dart, and while that car certainly hasn't dominated the compact car segment yet, it is certainly a stronger car than its predecessor.

VW's 'The Force,' Chrysler's 'Imported from Detroit' Head YouTube's Top 10 Ads of 2011 : Three years ago, YouTube named its top ads of 2011, many of which were car-related. In 2011, automakers released a series of Super Bowl ads that we still talk about to this day. Who can forget the Volkswagen ad featuring a young Star Wars fan dressed up as Darth Vader trying to use "The Force" on his father's new Passat? Or Chrysler's famous "Imported from Detroit" campaign featuring Eminem and images of the Chrysler 200?
