The 2012 Volvo XC60 has lots of cargo space and reviewers said it rides comfortably, but few found it very engaging to drive.

The 2012 Volvo XC60 is ranked:

The base 2012 Volvo XC60 is powered by a six-cylinder engine, while T6 models have a turbocharged six-cylinder engine. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. Some critics said the XC60 feels a bit sluggish with the base engine, though others said that there is sufficient power for most driving conditions. Though they preferred the more powerful turbocharged engine, some noted that its acceleration isn't particularly rapid either. However, others found that the R-Design model, which has a slightly more powerful turbocharged engine, feels quite quick. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available. A front-wheel drive XC60 with the base engine gets up to an EPA-estimated 19/25 mpg city/highway, which is decent for the class. The Volvo XC60's handling isn't particularly sporty, according to reviewers, but they said its ride feels comfortable and composed.

Automotive writers agreed that the 2012 Volvo XC60's cabin is inviting and attractive, with soft-touch surfaces and wood and metal trim. The XC60's seats are roomy and comfortable in both rows, reviewers said. Standard features include Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-speaker stereo system, HD Radio and satellite radio. It also comes standard with City Safety, which can automatically apply the brakes at low speeds if a collision is about to occur. Available features include navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, a 12-speaker stereo system, a rearview camera, integrated child booster seats in the back seats, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and collision warning and a panoramic sunroof. Some critics noted that the navigation screen can be difficult to read and that the system feels outdated. The 2012 XC60 has excellent cargo space for the class, at up to 67.4 cubic feet.

Other SUVs to Consider

Critics reported that the 2012 Acura RDX's sporty handling makes it fun to drive. The RDX gets respectable fuel economy for the class.

Reviewers agreed that the 2012 Cadillac SRX has a stylish cabin that is built with lots of top-notch materials. They liked that the SRX's navigation system is intuitive and has sharp graphics, and the 2012 SRX also has great cargo space for the class.
