Meghan Markle is celebrating her special day — a date that has already been a birthday in royal calendars for decades.

The Duchess of Sussex is marking her 41st birthday on Thursday, but August 4 is also the birthday of Queen Elizabeth's mother.

Last year, Prince Charles posted on his official Clarence House accounts to mark the birthday of his beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the namesake of Queen Elizabeth who was born in 1900 and went on to marry Prince Albert, Duke of York in 1923. Before Albert was coronated as King George VI, the Duke and Duchess Elizabeth welcomed their first daughter in 1926 and affectionately nicknamed her Lilibet, which is the name Prince Harry and Meghan chose for their first daughter. And as it happens, Archie's little sister celebrated her first birthday exactly two months ago today on June 4.

In the Twitter thread dedicated to his grandmother, Charles noted that the Queen Mother lived at his current London residence of Clarence House for nearly 50 years, and several portraits of the elder Elizabeth are displayed next to a silver vase given to her as a gift on her 100th birthday (she died on March 30, 2002, at the age of 101).

Charles also shared a photo of himself when he was around 12 years old alongside his grandmother, sister Princess Anne and Prince Andrew as an infant (the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Prince Edward, would be born 4 years later in 1964). One of the family's signature corgis even makes a cameo in the throwback snapshot!
