Federal workers can claim a free small popcorn at AMC Theaters while they wait for Congress to get them back to work.

The nations second-largest exhibition chain on Tuesday said it was offering free small popcorn to U.S. government employees, even if they were not among the 800,000 put out of work by the shutdown over the funding President Obama's Affordable Care Act health plan.

There are hundreds of thousands of federal workers whose lives are being impacted, said John McDonald, AMC's executive vice president of operations at AMC. While we cant do anything to resolve gridlock in Washington, D.C., we can provide a few hours of entertainment, and free popcorn, while they wait to get back to work."

Though they needn't be furloughed to be eligible for the snack, federal employees will have to present a government or military ID at the concession stand to get it, said AMC.

The offer is good until common sense is restored in Washington, D.C., or, more likely, until the shutdown ends or we run out of free popcorn, the company said in a release.
