Amy Winehouse's backing singer releasing charity song

6/13/2014

A backing singer who was discovered by Amy Winehouse has released a musical tribute to the late star to raise money for her charity. The Back To Black hitmaker performed with Zalon during her own shows and signed him to her Lioness record label before her death last year (11) from alcohol poisoning. He wrote and recorded a track called You Let Me Breathe just days after the singer passed away and he has now released the song in aid of the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Zalon says, "It was my immediate response (to her death). It poured out of me... It was my way of dealing with it. The lyrics were about how helpless I felt, I could only cry for Amy, but that wouldn't bring her back. I was crying in the booth while recording and I wasn't strong enough to release it until now... I'm so grateful to her and her family (who) are doing fantastic work with the Foundation. It is only right to donate the proceeds of the single to the charity."
