Blake Shelton a big winner at CMA Awards

6/17/2014

The Voice star Blake Shelton capped an amazing 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday (01Nov12) by picking up the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy at the 46th annual CMA Awards. The talent show judge beat ceremony host Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney to claim the big prize for the first time. Shelton also picked up the Song of the Year award for Over You, the emotional tune he wrote about his late brother and recorded with his wife Miranda Lambert. Accepting the award with a tearful Lambert by his side, he said, "I lost my brother in a car wreck when I was 14 years old and, later in life, when I decided I wanted to be a country singer, my dad always told me, 'Son, you should write a song about your brother'. "I lost my dad in January and it's so amazing to to me that, tonight, even after he's gone, he's still right! I just needed the right person to write this song with, and the right person to sing it." He was also named Male Vocalist of the Year at the CMA Awards.
