Ray Suarez has joined Al Jazeera America as host of its daily "Inside Story," the network announced on Monday.

"This is exactly what I wanted to do: host a program that provides viewers with a close look at the day's news and the issues they care about the most without the partisan rancor that you often see and hear elsewhere on television," Suarez said. "This is an exciting time to be joining Al Jazeera America and a great opportunity for me personally."

Suarez was most recently seen on "PBS Newshour," which he left in October. He worked his way up to chief national correspondent during his 14-year run with the show.

"Ray has repeatedly proven that he can deliver compelling coverage of the most challenging news stories and events with objectivity and depth, punctuated by Ray's own brand of thoughtful analysis," "said Kate O'Brian, president of Al Jazeera America. "That's exactly what 'Inside Story' is all about."

Al Jazeera America has struggled in the ratings since its Aug. 20 launch, but it's still very early days for the channel, which recently announced a deal with Time Warner that will up the number of homes that carry the channel from about 45 to 55 million. The channel recently announced plans to expand further, adding staff and bureaus over the next six months to a year.

Suarez' first day will be Nov. 11.
