By Tim Kenneally

Discovery Networks is getting mobbed up with Irwin Winkler and Nicholas Pileggi.

"GoodFellas" producer Winkler and writer Pileggi have entered a deal with Discovery for a scripted series, "The Five Families," about a subject they know a thing or two about — crime families.

"The Five Families" will be the first "to invoke the real figures and actual events in the history of the Gambino, Genovese, Lucchese, Bonanno and Colombo Mafia families — the famed five crime families of New York," the network said in a statement.

Pileggi (pictured) will write the pilot script for the series.
