Jeff Golub cheats death in train horror

6/12/2014

Rod Stewart's former guitarist Jeff Golub cheated death on Wednesday (05Sep12) after stepping in front of a subway train in New York City. The rocker, who has been blind since last year (11), was waiting for a ride at a station in Manhattan when he walked off the platform, mistakenly thinking a train had arrived. Horrified onlookers desperately tried to pull Golub to safety as a carriage approached, and he managed to scramble onto the platform just as the vehicle clipped his leg. Golub, whose guide dog had remained on the platform, was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released. He tells the New York Post, "I was just walking along and I thought the train was in front of me. But I just stepped off the platform onto the rails... I can't even tell you how terrifying it was. I can see colours so I could see the train coming at me, and I tried to get away as fast as I could. "Nobody had enough time when I was jumping in front of the train to stop me, but there was a guy who helped pull me up. I'm lucky I didn't fall underneath the train." Golub, who has also toured with Billy Squier, developed blindness last year and was diagnosed with a collapsed optic nerve.
