LAX Shooting Suspect Paul Ciancia Charged With Murder

By Tony Maglio

Federal prosecutors have officially charged LAX shooting suspect Paul Ciancia of murder.

In a criminal complaint filed Saturday, the 23-year-old was charged with murdering a federal officer. A separate charge of committing violence at an international airport was also filed.

Ciancia allegedly shot up a TSA checkpoint in Terminal 3 of the busy airport on Friday morning, killing a TSA officer and wounding other people. Armed enforcement agents shot Ciancia and took him into custody. The Transportation Security Agency officer who died was identified Friday as Gerardo Hernandez.

The incident had a massive ripple effect on travel into and out of LAX. Terminal 3 reopened Saturday around 1 p.m. PT and is expected to be full operational by the end of day.
