Axed The X Factor contestant Lyric Da Queen has revealed the medical reason behind her signature eye patch - she was "completely blind" for two years. The latest act to be eliminated from the singing competition is proud of how far she went in the contest with her fellow LYRIC145 bandmembers. Although she has been working for years to become a successful artist, Lyric, real name Lyric-Bianca Barnes, has spent the past couple of years recovering from a rare eye condition, which led her to wear the eye patch. In an interview with entertainment news site TVLine.com, the 23 year old reveals her story and how she didn't let a stay in the hospital get in the way of going for her dreams. She explains, "These past couple of years, I've been recovering from the condition I was under with my eyes. That whole eye patch thing, I wear it because I really need it. In 2008, I went completely blind for two and a half years. It was a condition called Keratoconus. So once I got my cornea transplant in both of my eyes, that's when I started to get my life back on track. "And then, like three days before my first X Factor audition, I had to go into emergency surgery. I was supposed to be in the hospital for two and a half weeks, but I discharged myself so I wouldn't miss my chance." Lyric did talk about her medical condition on camera but her powerful story never made it on air, and viewers were left wondering if the patch was just a fashion accessory. She adds, "I expected to see it on air, because they made me talk about it a lot. Well, I shouldn't say they made me, but it came up a lot, it really did. It was crazy. I had my first audition with tape and plastic over my eye. It wasn't like a fashion statement at that moment. I was ashamed, I was scared, I was embarrassed about it. And then it just turned into this trademark."
