Michael Jackson estate settles copyright lawsuit

6/12/2014 Wenn

Executors of Michael Jackson's estate have settled their copyright infringement lawsuit against businessman Howard Mann. Administrators John Branca and John McClain filed suit against Mann last year (11), accusing him of violating copyright and posing unfair competition to the estate by posting art from Jackson's This Is It film and a song called Destiny on his website Michaeljacksonsecretvault.com. Last month (Aug12) a judge ruled in favour of the estate, banning Mann from using any intellectual property created by the singer, including his trademarks, name and images, and on Tuesday (02Sep12) the executors were awarded $2.5 million (GBP1.6 million) in damages. Estate attorney Howard Weitzman tells the Associated Press, "The estate is delighted this matter is behind us."
