Naomi Watts tries to quit every movie over nerves

6/17/2014

Actress Naomi Watts battles severe anxiety before every film project and regularly threatens to quit before the cameras start rolling. The King Kong star admits she struggles with nerves and often tries to back out of jobs over fears she might not put in a good performance. She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I'm always nervous in the lead-up. The anticipation of a project... I'm always trying to pull out of it. Right up until (the last minute)... Trying to get them to re-cast... I'm always calling the director and saying, 'I don't think I can do it. There's got to be someone else who is more right for this.' I know myself well enough now to know that it's just my habit and it's my process." Watts reveals there were two films which frightened her the most - David Lynch's 2001 thriller Mulholland Drive, the role which launched her Hollywood career, and 21 Grams, which earned her an Oscar nomination. She adds, "Mulholland Drive completely terrified me. Working with David Lynch. And then one of the greatest fears was going into 21 Grams with Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro. I was just freaking out."
