TWC had originally set a Nov. 27 limited release to qualify it for this years Academy Awards, but the story of Grace Kelly's transition from actress to princess has been pushed to next year to allow for the film's completion, according to an individual close to the project. A TWC spokesman declined comment.

The most likely scenario at this point calls for a January release in France ahead of a U.S. debut in March. That's a better release date than the crowded holiday season in terms of commercial success.

"Grace of Monaco" is directed by Olivier Dahan ("La Vie en Rose") and co-stars Tim Roth, Parker Posey, Paz Vega, Frank Langella and Derek Jacobi.

The Weinstein Company should still have several horses in the awards races.

"Lee Daniels' The Butler" and "Fruitvale Station" are already in the discussion, and "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," "August: Osage County," "Philomena" and the musical "One Chance" are seen as having awards potential.
