The Voice knock-out rounds began as coaches Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green faced the daunting task of cutting their teams in half. Night one of the knock-out stage kicked off on Monday (29Oct12), as the remaining 10 contestants on each of Levine and Green's teams sang to stay in the competition. The singers were paired up with another member from their team, and picked their own songs in a bid to impress the judges. First up was the Maroon 5 singer, who started off the night by keeping Jocelyn Rivera, who he stole from Christina Aguilera after she was eliminated during the battle rounds. Also staying on were some of the show's most unique voices, found in jazzy Loren Allred and early teen frontrunner Melanie Martinez. Not making the cut were standouts from the blind auditions, Kayla Nevarez and Sam James, who both failed to impress Levine. Green made a couple of easy decisions by keeping Nicholas David and Mackenzie Bourg, but was also forced to boot some of the competition's best singers. Avery Wilson, 16, blew the whole panel away and had all four judges fighting for him at the blind auditions. However, his opponent Cody Belew showed huge improvements, prompting Green to keep him in the competition. Green also faced a difficult decision between two powerhouses, Trevin Hunte and Terisa Griffin, who not only boast impressive voices, but who have formed a tight bond on the show. Hunte was so overcome with emotion that he couldn't finish his solo through his tears, and even Green was moved by the performance, but the wannabe singer was forced to say goodbye to Griffin after their mentor made his final decision. Now with the two teams each down to five hopefuls each, they will continue on to the first live rounds of the season. Aguilera and Blake Shelton's teams enter the knock-out rounds on Tuesday's (30Oct12) show.
