Kiss, "Monster"
Our rating:
Keep it simple, stupid. You only need one great idea to make it, and Kiss had theirs almost 40 years ago; now it's all just maintenance. Does the quartet's 20th studio album sound good enough to warrant breaking out the face paint and flamethrowers yet again? Yes. Like 2009 reboot "Sonic Boom," the energetic "Monster" was produced by Paul Stanley and Greg Collins, written solely by the band, and doesn't tinker with the formula: a nonstop onslaught of oversized classic-rock riffs, more Kiss mythology (Tommy Thayer's Spaceman theme "Outta This World") and lyrics that make "Love Gun" seem Pulitzer-worthy. 1 K.B.R.
