Ray Winstone slimmed down for Sweeney role

6/12/2014

Actor Ray Winstone shed more than 21 pounds (9.5 kilograms) by embarking on a strict diet and exercise regimen as he prepared for his role in new movie The Sweeney. Winstone plays a street-hardened cop in the crime drama, which is based on the hit 1970s British show of the same name - and he ensured he was in top shape for the part. He slimmed down from 217 pounds (98.4 kilograms) to 196 pounds (88.9 kilograms) by taking daily walks on a treadmill, occasionally fasting, cutting out food after 6pm and abstaining from alcohol. The star admits he occasionally struggled with his booze ban, telling Britain's Daily Mail, "I did occasionally lapse from that last one. I did enjoy the odd - very large - alcoholic drink.'
