New American Idol panelist Nicki Minaj is prepared to become American Idol's new mean judge, insisting she has no plans to sugarcoat her criticisms of wannabes. The Starships hitmaker is a few weeks into her tenure as a judge on the singing competition, and she's already settling in. During an interview with Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Wednesday (31Oct12), Minaj shared her Idol style and promised to give the Idol hopefuls a glimpse of what the music industry is really like. She explained, "I went into it thinking I want to be honest; I remember that some of the toughest criticism I've ever gotten is what stood out in my brain and what made me better. I didn't want to go on the show and be phony to the contestants. I want them to have a real idea of the business, because this is real life." The 12th season of American Idol with Minaj, Carey, fellow new judge Keith Urban, and veteran Randy Jackson, begins on 16 January (13).
