Shawn Johnson received Dancing call-up hours after announcing her retirement

6/13/2014

The call to return to Dancing With The Stars could not have come at a better time for Olympian Shawn Johnson - she learned producers wanted her back on the TV dancefloor hours after announcing her retirement from competitive gymnastics. The golden girl realized her days on the mat were over after knee surgery and made the decision to quit competition just before the 2012 Olympics in London. She says, "I decided because of the reconstruction I wanted to go back to gymnastics... I just needed it. I got all the way back to competition (level) but not quite Olympic level and retired the week before the Olympic trials." But there was good news just around the corner: "I got the call the same day to do Dancing." Johnson is partnered up with Derek Hough on the new All-Stars season of the show - and the pair is a red-hot favorite to win the Mirrorball trophy. The gym star won the contest in 2009 when she was partnered with Mark Ballas.
