The X Factor live shows began on Wednesday (31Oct12), as the top 16 contestants took the stage. Now that the initial auditions and boot camp are over, the remaining acts were finally put to the test in front of a live audience - and the rest of America watching at home. With four contestants each, the night was also a chance for the judges to prove they have the chops to mentor a pop star-in-training. And among those who won over both the audience and the entire panel were Demi Lovato's young adult contestant, Jennel Garcia, who sang Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue. L.A. Reid praised the 18 year old, and said, "That was a 10. That was a great song choice. You just convinced me that you could win." Proving that the best was saved for last, California boys Emblem3 gave an energetic performance of Matisyahu's One Day that made the girls in the audience go crazy - and they managed to woo Lovato as well, who admittedly couldn't look the cute boys singing to her in the eye. Their mentor, Simon Cowell, also sang their praises and exclaimed, "For anyone watching this band for the first time remember this night because you are seeing future superstars." Not all the singing hopefuls garnered as much love from the judges, as song choice proved to be detrimental for LYRIC145, Jason Brock, and Vino Alan. Also making their debut on the show were new co-hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian, who played up the spooks and scares on Halloween night. On Thursday (01Nov12), the 20 will be pared down to the top 12, and with no public vote, the judges will pick who goes home and who stay.
