Popular Korean chain expands to Richardson

Burning Rice, a Korean eatery known for its sizzling rice bowls, will open a fifth DFW location in Richardson. According to Community Impact, the restaurant is set to open at 2069 North Central Expressway, joining outposts in Frisco, Hurst, The Colony, and a location at Dallas’s Preston Center. No word yet on when Burning Rice will make its Richardson debut.

Deep Ellum diners and drinkers will have to head to the neighborhood’s Uber pick-up zone

Hoping to head off some of the congestion and chaos in Deep Ellum, the City of Dallas will pilot a rideshare pick-up zone. According to the Dallas Observer, the “no-go” zone, or where Uber drivers will not be allowed to pick up riders, will stretch across Good Latimer Expressway to Malcolm X, Indiana, and Commerce. When the six-month pilot plan was announced, some restaurant and bar owners expressed concerns about their staff walking to the zones late at night, at the end of their shift with “pockets full of tips.” Once that “no-go zone” is established, riders will have to walk to one of seven different pick-up zones scattered throughout the neighborhood.

Weirdly-named KAABOO Festival attracts major chef talent

When the bizarrely-named KAABOO festival kicks off in Dallas on May 10 at AT&T Stadium, a number of major chefs from Texas and beyond will be serving up eats to concertgoers. Dallas’s own Junior Borges, Kent Rathbun and Christof Syre (of Four Seasons Resort at Las Colinas) will be on hand, along with celebrity chefs Michael Mina and Sean Brock, and Houston’s Bryan Caswell, among others. Controversial corny dog pop-up Fletch will also be frying up wieners.
